The Craft Jar and My Silhouette Cameo.
I've been playing around with my Silhouette Cameo a little bit and trying to get the hang of it. I am totally new to this kind of a machine. I never used the old model of the Silhouette and I've never used a Cricut either. There seems to be a bit of trial and error involved, I'm finding, which is no problem... I just wish I had more time to dedicate to that.
One of the things I have done with my Cameo is making this cute little gift for a five year old's birthday party.
I'm really kind of tired of giving toys as gifts to young children. It really doesn't leave much to the imagination. Books have been the gift of choice for us, but I wanted to do something different this time. Why not give a child a handmade gift that will encourage her or him to be creative? As I stood in my kitchen and brainstormed I saw the mason jars that I have been saving all lined up on my window sill, and I thought of this craft jar. I used my Cameo to create a label for it. I had intended to use this contact paper to stencil the design on the glass with paint, but when I stuck it on there I really liked the way it looked, so I left it just like that. Inside are various craft supplies that she can use to create little stick people, pictures, or whatever her little imagination can think of.
Flower stickers, mini popsicle sticks, craft spoons, pom poms, little paper hearts clipped together with mini clothespins, google eyes, "jewels", and a glue stick. I had most of them on hand already. They all fit right inside of the jar, and the boys had fun helping me take them out of their packages and put them in the jar. I glued a strip of ribbon into the inside of the lid so that she could carry it around, and added a strip of fabric to the edge to pretty it up.

What do you think? Have you ever given a gift like this or are you just as happy to hit the local Target?

That's a great idea. My boys would love a gift like that and would probably start playing with it right away.
I think it looks adorable... my olivia would love a gift like this one ;) and for now I am mostly a target shopper for lack of time ;(
what a great gift!! i love giving gifts like this!! it usually depends on if i've planned ahead or not. i do things like this and there are also times i'm buying the gift and gift bag/wrapping and wrapping the gift in the van in the parking lot before rushing to the party.
